Seized (2020)

A Familiar but Engaging Storyline

If you enjoy action films, you are likely familiar with Scott Adkins. He is known for delivering intense and fast-paced fight scenes. Seized (2020) continues to showcase his strengths in a simple yet gripping storyline.

The film follows Nero (Scott Adkins), a former special agent who has left his dangerous past behind. He now lives a quiet life with his son. However, when criminals kidnap his child, he is forced back into action. To save his son, he must eliminate a series of rival gang leaders under the orders of the kidnappers.

The plot is predictable and follows the classic “strong father rescues child” theme, similar to Taken (2008) and John Wick (2014). However, the fast pace and well-executed action sequences keep the audience engaged.

Action Sequences Steal the Show

The biggest strength of Seized is its action. Scott Adkins is a skilled martial artist, and the film makes full use of his abilities. The fight scenes blend hand-to-hand combat with gunfights, creating an exciting and dynamic experience.

Director Isaac Florentine, who has worked with Adkins before, ensures that the action remains smooth and visually appealing. However, due to the film’s low budget, there are few large-scale explosions or complex stunt sequences. Some shootout scenes also feel repetitive.

Scott Adkins Carries the Film

Since the script is straightforward, much of the film relies on Scott Adkins’ performance. He plays a determined father willing to do anything to save his son. While his action scenes are excellent, the film does not explore his character’s emotions in depth.

Mario Van Peebles plays the villain, but his character lacks development. He has an authoritative presence but does not feel like a serious threat to Nero.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Final Verdict
